Gosh Golly Regional Tournament!

2/22/2015

This past Wednesday, KCVImprov competed in the first night of play of the Kingston Regional Improv Tournament, and boy golly did we have a good time!

After a very large and violent game of Big Booty with the Regi team backstage (that left scary marks on James' thighs), we evolved into a theme game, then quickly into a story game, where we heard of the terrible reign of King James and how he threatened his servants Liam and Matt if they didn't remove the birdhouse that was keeping him up at night. (See I told you there would be pretty birds!)

After intermission we went straight into a style game in the style of an RPG (see the "Other Important Cultural Artefacts" page underneath "Photos" in the bar above), and the team rolled two natural 20s and slayed some orcs and an evil wizard. Then there was a life game, and Matt kept sleeping through his alarm clock and it was awful. Matt missed the bus.

Congrats to all the teams that competed, you were all wonderful!

In future news, thoughts are in motion to organize an invitational, just-for-fun night of play at the KC auditorium sometime in late March or early April. Many details need still to be detailed about this phenomenally phun time, but we will be sure to keep you, the Internet, updated.

Til then, stay warm, Internet.

It Beginneth,

So here we are, a week away from the start of a Kingston Improv Games tournament. KCVImprov is super stoked [sic] to be competing again, and encourages everybody to come out to the Octave Theatre on Wednesday the 18th at 7:00 pm to come support our glorious rebirth. From the ashes. Like a phoenix. A big ol' improvisational phoenix. Kind of like how Dumbledore ran Hogwarts, actually: he was just generally like "ehh I'll figure it out as I go along I've got a phoenix I'm good" and things tended to work out well.

That's what our Night of Play is gonna be like. A lot of pretty birds.

And hats.

But I digress! KCVImprov will be performing alongside teams from Ernestown, Bayridge, and Smith Falls on the first evening of the competition. Tickets are 8$ for students and seniors, and 10$ for adults. It's gonna be a sicknasty horrorshow amazing time [sic] and we for one can't wait.

(Meanwhile, if you need more information about the Kingston Tournament, zip on over to http://improv.ca/regions/kingston/, and if you can't wait eight days to get your fix of improv (I understand), you can get your fix of improv action over at http://improv.ca/training/classic-video/ (where you can even find an ancient KCVI Character event woah our team's old.))

A new lease on life

Hello everyone!

This is the first post to this blog in about 63 months, so... Happy New Year x5! As you can imagine, things have changed in KCVImprov since 2009. For instance, take a look at this draft blog post that was opened up when I went to make this update:
Dear Reader,

If you attended Saturdays KCVImprov invitiational you were informed of our beloved coach, Scott 'Kirk' Bates, has retired from the position of coach/buddy/leader/prankster/support/guru/friend - for those new and unaware, this is a sad thing.

We are eternally grateful for the hard work and commitment that Scott gave to the KCVI improv teams. Also for the guidance and the motivation to do our best and be fearless on stage and in life. With compassion he showed us in his words and actions how improv is n
To illustrate of how much has changed in KCVImprov, know this: I have absolutely no idea who Scott 'Kirk' Bates is. Still sad.

We have a new staff supervisor, Emma-Jane Hamilton #101 (just like the Dalmations), we were briefly in a new room (2013-2014 the Year of the Mat), this blog/website is under new management, and (more frighteningly) no one from the last actual competitive team has returned to the team this year! We're all brand new! Very exciting!

Watch this space for new news on the new team, perhaps some exciting events, and mysterious otherworldly sightings.

Are you all geared up for two nights of fun and laughter? I am.

I want to take a moment to say thank you for everyone who comes tonight and tomorrow to watch, help run and (of course) perform. Your support is greatly appreciated and KCVImprov wouldn't be the same without you.

Now to start compiling a list of good suggestions to help the players create awesome scenes.

object: Horn of Plenty (for Thom)
location: Attic (for me)
occupation: Jewel Thief / Cat Burgler

See you tonight!

Come out - bring your friends, act crazy, but, like, listen when you hear a whistle or friendly advice. Or whatever. Can't wait to see everyone. Actually I'm curious if anyone is actually reading these. Say codeword: "snuffleupagus" or "snuffy buffy" to Suki this Friday. She might have secret peanut-free treats in her purse.

How are ticket sales going? Anyone? Bueller?

See you Friday at the KCVI auditorium for some improv love.

Reminder! No tryouts this Friday

The 25th is still a PA day. The KCVI auditorium will be thoroughly empty, aside from the janitorial staff's new age dance lessons. So, Enjoy your day off school - I recommend having a mini spa day with some friends, followed by a Guitar Hero marathon.

Are you a hermit forced to spend your PA day alone in your tree house? No problem! You can spend your time learning a new accent. Eastern European, Caribbean, Australian, 1920's gangster,  Minnesota 'dontchya knows'... or something challenging, like, mildly tipsy Swede.

Motivational Posters inspired by alumnus, Limey, and his love of England. Points for anyone who can come up with a catchy character one... that one needs work.

I want you to come to tryouts

The ol' search engine churned out another gem. I found this deviant art poetry entry by pumpkinskull... with a name like that you'd think I'd remember them, eh?

"and I join up with the KCVI Improv team again instead- or even just go along to practices, and cheer them on. I feel productive and accomplished"

Oh improv groupies, you make the world a better place.

That being said, do come to tryouts this Friday as you will see there is nothing to be afraid of as we are a just a silly group of people who enjoy make-believe a little too much. Bring a friend - especially if you know them to be a improv-enthusiast.

Do you have a secret talent?

Let us know about! Seriously, are you like an expert on the French Revolution, or do you have mad accordian skills? Tell us.

In other news: As I was scanning top google searches for KCVI improv I came across this blog entry from January. I'm pleased as punch that people enjoy KCVImprov Annual January Invitational so much that they blog about on strange obsolete sites. PLEASED AS PUNCH.

"On Saturday, the Improv team went to the KCVI Invitational in Kingston, OMG it was so much fun!!! I love improv! Annie did an amazing bat, and I met quite an interesting character called Edgar, he was red and had a televison in his stomach. Teletubbies are not my friends."
a red accordion or is it accordian?
